Mar 19, 2014 · It won't see the MAC of the network card but the MAC of the vswitch that the NIC is connected to. If you go into Vsphere - connect to vcenter - Hosts and clusters - select a host - configuration - networking - select the network you are interested in and then you'll see 'nic settings on the right'. In there is the MAC that the switch will see. 'ipconfig /registerdns' in the command line yields 'This operation requires elevation' please help! I have intermittent and slow internet. Usually no problem is detected but occasionally it comes up with 'problem with device or DNS server' I have tried help on other forums. 1) ipconfig /all - this shows all the things like MAC Address, Adapter name, DHCP lease time, DHCP renew time, DNS server. What is the equivalent in linux Ubuntu - I understand ifconfig but ifconfig doesn't give that many information.

After working with Microsoft Azure, Nano Server and Containers, PowerShell together with networking becomes more and more important. Another command will give you details about the layer 2 properties of the interface: its MAC address (ethernet address), etc; even if it is shown by ip address: ip link show. Furthermore, you can set devices up or down (similar to ifconfig eth0 up or ifconfig eth0 down) simply by using: ip link set DEVICE up or ip link set DEVICE down
